Tyler Saladino is slated to take over for Ramirez as the team’s starting shortstop, but will have to battle it out with Rollins, 37, for the opening-day role.

Per Fox Sports, Rollins rejected two teams that offered super-utility jobs and guaranteed contracts for more money for the chance to become Chicago’s everyday starter at short.
Rollins hit just .224/.285/.358 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs in 563 plate appearances for the Dodgers last season, but did perform well against lefties, slashing .297/.339/.423. Saladino on the other hand, played in 68 games as a rookie this past season, batting .225/.267/.335 with an even worse split against southpaws (.207/.288/.362). The two may be headed for a time-share at shortstop.
It will be Rollins’ first stint in the American League after 16 seasons in the NL with the Phillies and Dodgers.
