Only Murders in the Building has been a monster success for Hulu. Its past season was nominated seventeen times at this year’s Emmy Awards, and won three of them. Previously, Paul Rudd joined Only Murders in the Building season 3 after a cameo in the season 2 finale. He portrayed Ben Gilroy, who will be a returning cast member for season 3 of the show. Though the size of that role was not revealed, comments by co-creator John Hoffman indicate that Rudd’s role will be a substantial one.

According to Deadline, Jesse Williams, who portrayed Dr. Jackson Avery for twelve seasons on Grey’s Anatomy, will be joining Gomez, Short, and Martin on the show. He will be portraying a documentarian character that takes a particular interest in Mabel Mora, Charles Haden-Savage, and Oliver Putnam’s latest case. Given the cast of colorful characters on the show, he’s sure to be an interesting addition to the cast.

Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building expertly continued a blend of comedic storytelling with the show’s murder mystery format. The show has received critical acclaim in addition to some impressive viewing figures on the platform. It’s no surprise that the show would be renewed for a third season over at Hulu.

It’s possible that Jesse Williams’ documentarian will serve as one of the fresh suspects in Only Murders in the Building season 3. Certainly, as a documentarian, he has a perfect cover to hide any murder he may have committed and that the central trio of characters may be investigating. He may also serve as an antagonist or nuisance for the characters regardless of his culpability in the crime; after all, a documentarian would be competition for the podcast the trio run.

Only Murders in the Building previously added new characters in season 2. Fans will likely have to wait some time before learning more about Only Murders in the Building’s new plot. The series has yet to begin filming on season 3, but it’s possible a late 2022/early 2023 production date is in the works. Until then, fans will have to speculate on where their favorite characters may go next.

Only Murders in the Building is streaming on Hulu.
