As to be expected, Seinfeld was thrilled with the news. “We are so happy to get the California tax credit which enables us to make our whole movie there,” Seinfeld said. According to the man himself, his excitement goes beyond getting a tax credit from the state in which the film will be produced. California holds a special place in Jerry’s heart for a very important reason. “Having made all of the ‘Seinfeld’ series in L.A., I very much wanted to come back and shoot there again. On behalf of everyone working on the movie, we really appreciate the great welcome.”

Besides allowing Netflix to stream his ageless show, Seinfeld has been involved in various projects for the streaming service, such as comedy specials like 23 Hours to Kill and Jerry Before Seinfeld and shows such as Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Producing, directing, and starring in a Pop-Tarts film is something no one would really expect from Seinfeld, especially since it will center around a popular snack food, but the project sounds intriguing enough that plenty will tune in anyway.

Ever since his show went into syndication, Seinfeld has taken on some odd projects in the two decades since, like Bee Movie. So, it’s not entirely out of right field that he would take on a project like Unfrosted, or even that he would do a project about this particular subject. He did a bit about Pop-Tarts in the special 23 Hours to Kill, and the show Seinfeld built the reputation it did in part because of how well the show utilized product placement, which usually involved treats.

Even though it sounds like an odd project, viewers should be intrigued to see a film about Pop-Tarts with Seinfeld involved. So while no one really asked for a film about how Pop-Tarts came to be, fans will gladly watch it because Seinfeld and Netflix hardly ever let them down in the past.

Seinfeld can currently be streamed on Netflix.
