The Cowboys’ Ring of Honor features some of Dallas’ all-time greats: 17 of its 22 members are Hall of Famers, with more to come. There is, though, a notable omission. Jimmy Johnson, head coach of two of Dallas’ five Super Bowl victories still doesn’t have an official spot among the franchise’s greats.

While Jerry Jones announced in 2020 that Johnson would go in, the 79-year-old is still waiting for his day. When told that the decision to leave Johnson out is “petty,” Jones didn’t deny it, and explained his decision to leave him off:

Jones’ words in full:

Johnson deservedly gets a lot of credit for the team that the Cowboys became in the ’90s, but a power grab and “disloyalty” led to his ousting in 1994, just a year after his second Super Bowl win.

How I do that, what I do it with, I get to make that decision. And it isn’t, at the end of the day, all tailored around whether Jimmy’s sniveling or not.

Jones has also taken blame for the way things deteriorated between he and his former coach in recent years.

Clearly, that guilt hasn’t been enough to get past the grudge match with Johnson.
